Heat and Frost Insulators Local 17 is a labor union representing skilled tradespeople who specialize in the installation, maintenance, and insulation of pipes, ducts, boilers, and other systems that require temperature control. Members of Local 17 work in industrial, commercial, and residential settings, insulating various types of mechanical systems to improve energy efficiency, safety, and comfort.
The project, an adaptive reuse of a former construction materials warehouse into Local 17 headquarters, provides a central location for the membership. The facility is equipped to host union meetings as well as private events for the members. A state of the art training facility accommodates hands on training for apprentices simulating actual projects and work sites. Separate management and Health and Benefits office spaces were created to protect sensitive information protected by HIPA.
